Howling, or ringing (meion), is a sonic phenomenon. Although often regarded as a problem, it is sometimes used in musical instruments. The original English meaning of “howling” is a prolonged animal cry. In Japan, it is colloquially described as “oto ga mawaru” (the sound goes around) or “hauru” (to howl). In English, it is often called “feedback.”
