Blues is a musical genre originating among African Americans in the Deep South of the United States. It is said to have developed around the late 19th century from spirituals, field hollers, work songs, and other forms in the Deep South. Whereas jazz is primarily instrumental, blues centers on singing accompanied by guitar.
