An early-Edo-period military treatise by Miyamoto Musashi, founder of Niten Ichi-ryu. Divided into 5 volumes modeled on Buddhism’s five elements—earth, water, fire, wind, and void. Earth discusses the general meaning of strategy; water, its advantages; fire, principles of battle; wind, critiques of other schools; and void, its deepest mysteries.
