The Dirichlet distribution is known as the conjugate prior of the multinomial distribution and, briefly, is a distribution of “how likely each face of a die is to appear.” The multinomial distribution is the “distribution of appearing faces,” while the Dirichlet distribution is the “distribution of the likelihood of faces appearing,” so Bayesian statistics often uses the Dirichlet distribution as the prior for the multinomial distribution.
