(Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin, Johann Christian Friedrich—) German poet. He wrote lyrical works, regarding bringing a world of harmony between nature and humanity into existence on earth as the poet's mission. His works include the epistolary novel Hyperion and the dramatic poem The Death of Empedocles. (1770–1843)
