Parliament and Funkadelic differ in their music and labels, but their members overlap in part. P-Funk music ranges from Funkadelic's rock-oriented music centered on heavy guitar sounds to Parliament's well-crafted funk based on horns, choruses, and synthesizers. Live, over 20 people rotate in and out, presenting lengthy performances lasting as long as 4 hours. It is characterized by a 16-beat funk sound featuring distorted electric bass with heavy wah-wah or synth bass, synthesizers wandering through space, a thick horn section, and unison choruses. Its sound is complex, created by many members and also using synthesizers and synth bass.
