The best-known traditional Bunun music is a chorus called “Pasibutbut” (written in Standard Chinese as “eight-part harmony,” among other forms). Originally a song praying for a bountiful harvest at occasions such as the millet sowing festival (“Minpinan,” sowing festival) each February, it uses a choral method in which several to over ten men form a circle and gradually layer slightly different scales.
