The kithara is an ancient Greek string instrument in the family of zithers and related instruments. Also called kithara with a long final vowel. In Latin, spelled “cithara” and pronounced kithara, or chitara from the Middle Ages onward. In modern Greek, the word has lost its original meaning and means guitar.
