“Two-part dream Noh” is a Noh staging form, with two-part referring to the first and second scenes. The protagonist is the same person: in the first scene, their incarnation (mae-shite) encounters a role such as a monk (waki), and in the second reveals their true identity (nochi-shite).
Whereas mugen Noh features nonworldly beings such as spirits of the dead or vengeful ghosts as the shite, the form featuring real people and stories developing over time is called “genzai Noh.”
