Torahiko Terada was a physicist generally known for his essays, leaving many scientific essays written from an exceptionally broad perspective. The controversy begins when one of his pupils pointed out that giraffe spots closely resemble cracks seen when clay and similar materials dry, proposing the hypothesis that physical phenomena similar to cracking might also be involved in spot formation.
