Rhizome is a philosophical term meaning an underground stem, discussed in contrast with a tree structure. A tree is based on a single root, supported by a thick trunk, and forms many branches and leaves; a rhizome has no center sustaining the metabolism of the whole structure, spreads freely underground, and forms sites of generation in various places. Finds common ground in structures centered on concepts. A rhizome means a stem lying underground, not a root. Nomads and rhizomes. Has its etymology in Deleuze. Postmodernism and rhizomes. Whether rhizomes have laws of nature.
