“Maha” means “great” and “Bharata” the “Bharata tribe,” literally “the story of the great Bharata tribe.” It also has immense value as a source of Indian religion and philosophy. Content: Depicts a great war beginning when humanity multiplies so much that the earth goddess can no longer bear its weight. The Mahabharata (Sanskrit: Mahābhāratam Mahābhāratam) is a great epic concerning the Bharata tribe. Bharata is another name for the Kuru tribe central to the story.
