Ramayana

Whereas the “Mahabharata” has no absolute protagonist throughout and numerous heroes appear and disappear over a vast history from past to present, the “Ramayana” tells the story of a single heroic protagonist, Rama. Its story unfolds linearly over a relatively short time span, from Rama's hardships and battles to his victory.

『マハーバーラタ』には全編を貫く絶対的な主人公がおらず多数の英雄たちが過去から現在まで長大な歴史のなかで現れては消えていくのに対し、『ラーマーヤナ』はラーマというひとりの英雄的主人公をめぐる物語で、そのストーリーもラーマの苦難と戦い、勝利まで、直線的に、比較的短い時間軸で展開します。
