Argo floats have built-in functions to adjust their buoyancy. Once deployed at sea, they first sink to a preset drifting depth (usually 1000m). After drifting there for a certain period (usually about 10 days), they descend to the deepest observation layer (usually 2000m) before rising toward the sea surface. #word
