A priori is a Latin expression meaning “from what comes before.” In medieval Scholasticism, it meant “deductive (reasoning, argument, or cognition) beginning from causes or principles,” but since Kant it has come to mean “prior to experience, innate, inborn, or transcendental (human conditions and structures of cognition).”
