The daguerreotype was the world's first practical photographic method, invented by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre and announced at the French Academy on August 19, 1839, and the most widespread technique until wet-plate photography was established. Because it uses materials such as silver-plated copper plates as photosensitive media, it is also called “silver-plate photography” in Japanese.
