https://scrapbox.io/files/669c898c157fcc001d9db817.webp A magic lantern is a machine, the prototype of the slide projector, using a lamp and lens to project images drawn on glass onto a suitable screen, or a classical name for its successor, the slide projector. According to Joseph Needham, magic lanterns reportedly already appear in writings in 2nd-century China. In the West, devices enlarging and projecting images with lanterns had been made before the 15th century, but the Jesuit Athanasius Kircher and Dutch Protestant Christiaan Huygens are said to have contributed to the reinvention of the magic lantern incorporating lenses and slides. #media
