Overview
Ambivalence means simultaneously having conflicting emotions toward an object or showing conflicting attitudes. It derives from German Ambivalenz. Although translated as “dual-valued emotions,” “two-sided value,” or “dual-valuedness,” in Japanese it is generally expressed unchanged as “ambivalence” or “ambivalenz.” The adjective is ambivalent.
