Umberto Eco was an Italian novelist, essayist, literary critic, philosopher, and semiotician. A recipient of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Best known as the author of the groundbreaking historical novel “The Name of the Rose,” published in 1980. It is an intellectual mystery incorporating semiotic analysis of fiction, biblical analysis, medieval studies, and literary theory.
