DIVE (Distributed Interactive Virtual Environment) is a virtual environment developed by S. D. Benford and others for collaborative work (CSCW) and similar purposes. DIVE is based on a model in which objects in virtual space (including humans as avatars) have a surrounding region called an aura, and interaction such as conversation arises when it overlaps with another's aura. Interaction has 2 possibilities, present or absent, and its intensity is not modeled. It attempts to model not only human conversations but passive objects such as whiteboards as well.
