A tone cluster is a cluster-like chord simultaneously sounding all notes between one note name and another. Also called a “dense sound mass.” A concept used by American composer Henry Cowell, who then regarded clusters as “collections of chords in 2nds.”

トーン・クラスターは、ある音名から別の音名までの全ての音を同時に発する房状和音のことを指す。「密集音塊」とも。アメリカの作曲家ヘンリー・カウエルが用いた概念で、カウエルは当時「クラスターは2度の和音の集合」と捉えていた。
