Otojiro Kawakami was an impresario and artist from the Chikuzen Kuroda domain who became a sensation with the “Oppekepe Song” and founded Shinpa theatre. The student theatre and political activist theatre he began eventually became Shinpa, gaining popularity surpassing older theatre. Called the “father of Shinpa theatre.” His childhood name was Otokichi Kawakami. His professional name as a Kamigata storyteller was Ukiyotei ◯◯.
