A detector used in elementary-particle and nuclear experiments, also called a “wire chamber” or “multiwire proportional chamber (MWPC).” Numerous thin metal wires are stretched in parallel; information from gas ionization generated when charged particles pass through the wires is measured as tracks along the wires.
