The sitar is a representative string instrument originating in northern India, with a long neck, a gourd resonating body, and more than 20 strings. Besides the strings playing the main melody, constantly sounding drone strings produce rich overtones. With its distinctive resonance and deep expressive power, it is used in healing and contemporary music as well as North Indian classical music.
シタールは、北インド発祥の代表的な弦楽器で、長いネックと瓢箪(ひょうたん)製の共鳴胴を持ち、20本以上の弦が特徴です。メインの旋律を奏でる弦の他に、絶えず鳴り響くドローン弦が豊かな倍音を生み出し、独特の響きと深い表現力を持ち、北インド古典音楽だけでなく、ヒーリング音楽や現代音楽にも用いられます。
