Work overview
The CRT monitor installed in the center of the venue shows 4 glowing neon tubes positioned at equal intervals throughout the space. A swinging pendulum with a magnet is suspended from the ceiling. Every time the pendulum passes, the image on the monitor becomes distorted. Magnetism distorts the image, endlessly varying its color and form. Meanwhile, an antenna fitted to the television detects the magnetic field of the magnet and connects to audio equipment as a device analyzing electromagnetic waves. By converting fluctuations in electromagnetic waves into audio signals, viewers can perceive them as “sound.” This work makes it possible to capture through sight and hearing electromagnetic waves that humans cannot sense in everyday life.
