Sudan has approximately 250–255 pyramids, more than neighboring Egypt. Built as tombs for kings and queens of the ancient Kush civilization (Nubian civilization), which flourished along the Nile before the Common Era, they are smaller than Egyptian pyramids and characterized by steep slopes (angles of about 65–68 degrees).
