A method of creating scores using chance, devised in the early 1950s by American musician J. Cage and employed by experimental musicians. It is a variation of “chance music.” Cage's Music of Changes (1951), using coins and an 8×8 chart, is considered the first work to fully incorporate this method.
アメリカの音楽家、J・ケージが1950年代初頭に考案し、実験音楽家らによって活用された、偶然を利用してスコアを作成する手法。 「偶然性の音楽」のひとつのヴァリエーションである。 コインと8×8のチャートを使用したケージの《易の音楽》(1951)が、この手法を全面的に導入した最初の作品とされる。
