Parseval's theorem generally refers to the result that the Fourier transform is unitary. Roughly, the sum of the squares of a function equals the sum of the squares of its Fourier transform. It originated in French mathematician Marc-Antoine Parseval's 1799 theorem on series, later applied to Fourier series.
