The Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction is a chemical reaction producing periodic changes and complex patterns. It is known as an oscillating reaction because concentrations of various chemical species change periodically during it. Leaving a BZ reaction solution while stirring allows periodic color changes to be observed.
