Fugue-like passages appearing in symphonies, chamber works, sonatas, and so on are composed using forms and techniques such as fugal exposition and stretto, but do not satisfy every requirement of a fugue and are parts of a piece or movement rather than independent works. These are called fugato.
交響曲や室内楽曲、ソナタなどの一部に現れるフーガ様の部分は、フーガの提示部やストレッタなどの様式・技法を用いて作曲されているが、フーガとしての要件を全て満たしているわけでもなく、また独立した曲ではなくて一つの曲や楽章の部分を成す。 こうしたものはフガート (fugato) と呼ばれる。
