The Heiligenstadt Testament is a letter Beethoven wrote to his family in 1802. Ill health including hearing loss, despair over relationships, and more. Its wording expresses Beethoven’s suffering at rock bottom. Hearing loss was devastating for a musician, and his despair is immeasurable.
