The Cultural Revolution (Japanese: bunka daikakumei) was a political struggle and movement to seize power from Liu Shaoqi, disguised as a “cultural reform movement” led by Chinese Communist Party Central Committee chairman Mao Zedong. It lasted in the People’s Republic of China from 1966 to 1976, with its conclusion declared in 1977.
