Fortepiano is a name used to distinguish pianos in the styles of the 18th to early 19th centuries from pianos of the 20th century onward. Conversely, when specifically referring to contemporary pianos, the term modern piano is used.
フォルテピアノは18世紀から19世紀前半の様式のピアノを、20世紀以降のピアノと区別する際に用いられる呼称である。これに対して現代のピアノを特に指す場合はモダンピアノという呼称が用いられる。
