The house where Ogai lived with his family from 1892 (Meiji 25), when he was 30, until his death at age 60 in Taisho 11. It is said the distant sea was visible from the house’s 2nd floor, and Ogai named it Kanchoro (tide-viewing pavilion). It was also used for poetry gatherings he organized.
