Cosimo (1389–1464), head of the Medici family, was strongly interested in ancient Greek philosophy, particularly Plato's thought. Interest in Platonic philosophy was growing in Florence, prompted by lectures on Plato given by philosopher Plethon, who came as a member of the Eastern Roman Empire's delegation to the Council of Florence in 1439. #word
