The Schola Cantorum was a trained papal choir in the Middle Ages, specializing in plainchant for performing music in church. Pope Sylvester 1 is said to have founded the first Schola Cantorum in the 4th century, but it was Pope Gregory 1 who established the school on a firm footing and endowed it.
