Creole music refers to music born from mixtures of different ethnic groups in the Caribbean. Particularly includes music beginning in 18th-century Haiti and music influenced by immigrants moving from Cuba to New Orleans.
For the genealogy of Creole music, there is Asako Kumashiro's CD Genealogy of Creole Music—Cuba and New Orleans. Kumashiro, who graduated top of her class from the Madrid Conservatory and went to Cuba to study with Frank Fernández, performs rare recorded music.
African music also mixed with Spanish music in Cuba to create Afro-Cuban music, while chanson créole arose in French Haiti. These musics traveled to America and became jazz through their encounter with European music.
