《pH》 1992 Dumb Type The title pH derives from the chemical term for the hydrogen-ion concentration index, and the performance comprises 13 scenes following binary oppositions (question/answer, image/word, fact/fiction, public/private, real/unreal, etc.). Producing a video of this performance led to a collaboration with the Japanese satellite broadcaster WOWOW. A vast amount of footage shot from various viewpoints and angles at various performance venues was edited by Dumb Type's Teiji Furuhashi into a video work going beyond mere documentation. It won the Sole d’Oro (Golden Sun) award at TTVV-Riccione (Italy) and the Best Stage Recording award at IMZ Dance Screen 92 (Germany). text: dumb type Performance premiere: 1990, Spiral Hall (Tokyo).
