This book rereads Jean-Jacques Rousseau's classic “The Social Contract,” particularly its concept of the general will, as something implementable in today's information-technology environment, and discusses the possibilities of contemporary media and democracy alongside the resulting proposed general will. The paperback's end includes a dialogue with political scientist Shigeki Uno, author of Democracy in the Age of the “Self” (Iwanami Shoten, Iwanami Shinsho, 2010), also quoted in the main text. After publishing “Ontological, Postal,” Hiroki Azuma distanced himself from Japanese scholarly contemporary thought while publishing works such as “Otaku: Japan's Database Animals.” While announcing that he would eventually update his discussion of Derrida, he focused his activities for nearly 10 years on contributing to literary magazines, television appearances, and cultivating young critics. Meanwhile, in the web world, Azuma used Nico Nico Douga and Twitter to reformulate Jean-Jacques Rousseau's general will, the origin of Derrida, using new media. There was also criticism asking him to stop discussing political issues involving actual human life and death through frivolous media (at Japan Policy School's 2nd commemorative symposium before its opening). https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E4%B8%80%E8%88%AC%E6%84%8F%E5%BF%972-0-%E3%83%AB%E3%82%BD%E3%83%BC%E3%80%81%E3%83%95%E3%83%AD%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88%E3%80%81%E3%82%B0%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B0%E3%83%AB-%E6%9D%B1-%E6%B5%A9%E7%B4%80/dp/4062173980
