https://bijutsutecho.com/artwiki/118 Cybernetic art and cybernetic serendipity are artistic expressions that apply the concepts of cybernetics, which emerged in the 1940s. They refer to works in which a system autonomously receives changes in the environment or viewers and responds and interacts through light, sound, movement, and so on. Characteristics and history of cybernetic art: Interaction with the environment: A “feedback loop” in which humans and machines (computers) influence each other forms the core of the work. Historical roots: The “Cybernetic Serendipity” exhibition held in London in 1968 is considered a milestone that brought this genre to worldwide attention. Representative artists: Examples include Nicolas Schöffer, who made sculptures responding to space and environment, and Tsai Wen-Ying (Chinese name: Cai Wenying), known for works using strobe lights and vibrations. Contemporary developments: Today's interactive art, media art, and AI-based generative art are rooted in the ideas of cybernetic art and are further evolving into VR and robotics.
