The universe's greatest mystery: “The vanished antimatter.” Immediately after the birth of the universe (the Big Bang), matter and antimatter are thought to have been created in exactly equal numbers. Yet surveying the universe today reveals almost no antimatter in nature, and our Earth and stars are made only of matter. The mystery of “why only antimatter disappeared while only matter remained” is thought to relate to the physical phenomenon of “CP symmetry violation,” but has not yet been fully explained.
