A Turing machine is a hypothetical computing device that defined “computation” in a paper published by Alan Turing in 1936. Its structure is simple: if this device performs a calculation and can output data, it is defined as computable; if data output is impossible, it is defined as uncomputable.
The astonishing thing about a Turing machine is its extreme simplicity. It has just 1 tape and 1 reading head. All it can do is move the head 1 character to the right or left, write characters on the tape, and read characters. With just these mechanisms, every algorithm can be implemented.
