An ori is a DNA base sequence signaling the start of DNA replication, also simply called an origin. The chromosomal ori (oriC) of E. coli consists of approximately 250 pairs of nucleotides. The base sequence of a plasmid ori resembles oriC. In contrast, the endpoint of replication is called ter (termination). #word
