Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri (Kasuga Taisha), Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri. The annual festival of Wakamiya Shrine, an auxiliary shrine of Kasuga Taisha. Said to have been begun by regent Fujiwara no Tadamichi in Hoen 2 (1136), in the late Heian period, to pray for abundant harvests, it has been held without a single interruption ever since. The “Owatari procession” from noon on December 17 features a historical parade. #word
