In the counterpoint techniques used for music formed by 2 independent melodies harmonizing while retaining their individual characters, several matters require attention regarding the relationship between the 2 melodies. When 2 voices progress, ◯ Movement of 2 voices in the same direction is called “parallel motion.” ○ 2 voices moving in opposite directions is called “contrary motion,” ◯ One voice remaining stationary is called “oblique motion.” ○ When 2 voices are held simultaneously, it is not called “motion.” https://shimazu-takehito.webnode.jp/%EF%BC%92%E5%A3%B0%E5%AF%BE%E4%BD%8D%E6%B3%95/ #sound
