Ichihara Lakeside Museum https://www.artagenda.jp/exhibition/detail/1217 Born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in former East Germany in 1965 and now based in Berlin, Carsten Nicolai produces works moving between art, music, and science, focusing on the properties and patterns of human perception, light, sound, and natural phenomena. Nicolai, also active as a musician under the name Alva Noto, holds his first solo exhibition at a Japanese art museum in about 15 years. Titled “Parallax (the visual effect in which an object looks different when viewed from 2 different points),” it explores the roots of his expression. The exhibition presents works meticulously remodeled to fit the museum’s exhibition spaces, including 6 projects such as an 18m-long projection work and a sound installation using an atrium. The dynamic display highlights the delicate beauty of the artist’s expression while providing an experience that appeals to viewers’ bodies.
