https://exonemo.com/works/bodypaint/ For contemporary people connected to smartphones, connecting to the internet constantly and everywhere completes our personalities. This article uses body painting to examine our physical definition and embodiment in a world of networked information devices. Each work in this portrait series displays a nude, shaved person painted entirely in a single color on an LCD whose entire surface apart from the onscreen human is painted the same color. These boundaries are removed, and background and foreground become the human body and the electronic display's body, each covered in paint of the same color. The subject therefore becomes a sense of ambiguity and confusion, raising questions about defining the depicted individual as human or as representation. Apart from these formalist aspects, this work also addresses the question of “existence” in media. The human body has a fairly well-understood horizon of longevity, but the horizons of longevity of data, paintings, and art remain debatable. The diverse timescales of body art, figurative painting, and media art interact as the work seeks common ground concerning the present and existence itself.
