“Ecosophic” is a term based on the concept of “ecosophy (ecology + philosophy)” proposed by thinker Félix Guattari. It refers to thinking and artistic approaches exploring ecological connections and coexistence encompassing society, the human mind, and technology, as well as the natural environment. Through books by Yukiko Shikata (media art curator), a leading figure in this field in Japan, and others, it became widely known in the contexts of art and social criticism. Its main characteristic is connecting the following 3 elements: Environmental ecology (relationships with the natural environment); social ecology (social systems and communities); mental ecology (individual psychology and consciousness). If you would like to explore the ecosophic concept or related art projects further, which of the following information would you like? Details or reviews of Yukiko Shikata's book “Ecosophic Art”; examples of specific artists and works embodying this thinking; relationships between environmental issues, technology, and ecosophy.
