In “A Thousand Plateaus,” the major work of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalyst Félix Guattari, “smooth space” (Japanese reading: nameraka na kukan) refers to the fluid field in which a “war machine (nomadic organization)” unfolds, escaping state control and frameworks (striated space) and freely becoming and changing.
