Perturbation is an astronomical term referring to the disturbance of an orbit in a system formed by a celestial body and its parent body through gravitational and other effects of other objects. In the Solar System, cometary orbits are frequently disturbed, particularly by the gravitational fields of gas planets. For example, in April 1996, Jupiter's gravity reduced Comet Hale–Bopp's orbital period from 4206 years to 2380 years. https://scrapbox.io/files/6499a92a045032001bd554d7.png
